UK advocacy group Understanding Animal Research have published an open letter in The Times in response to protests surrounding dog breeding facility MBR Acres, UK.
In the letter (also available here without paywall), the group call for more support from the authorities for the site staff, and the UK life science sector.
They also stress the need for animal research using dogs, saying “research organisations are working towards a time when dogs are no longer needed, but for now they are licensed for use only when there is no alternative”.
The letter has been signed by 18 biomedical institutions and support groups, including EARA.
