Organoid research secures funding

A research project aiming to confirm ‘mini-organs’ as good models to study human biology has won EU funding.

The HCA|Organoid initiative, supported by Horizon 2020, focusing initially on the colon and brain, will establish a ‘human organoid atlas’, but will add other organs as pilot studies.

HCA|Organoid has eight partners within Austria, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland and the UK, and will form part of the ‘Human Cell Atlas’ (HCA) – a global project to advance biomedical research.

"These are complementary technologies will bring us an important step closer to the rational development of future therapies for a wide range of diseases," said Christoph Bock, project co-ordinator of the CeMM Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
