Bone tissues 'produced on an industrial scale'

Scientists from EARA member KU Leuven, Belgium, have succeeded in growing bone tissue on a large scale.

Based on studies with laboratory animals, including mice, the team produced bone tissue that could be grown through 3D bioprinting – a method used to fabricate biomedical parts that imitate natural tissue characteristics.

In an article published in Advanced Science, the authors said the findings will “pave the way for the biomanufacturing of clinically relevant implants possessing robust functionality and causal connection with the clinical outcome”.
